Ahead of the Saturday, November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo State, candidates of various political parties have signed a Peace Accord to ensure peace before, during and after the exercise.

The accord was midwifed by the Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas Commission, the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, the National Voter’s Drive Coalition, and the Imo Advocacy Group.

The political gladiators pledged to ensure a credible and peaceful election devoid of violence in the state during the November 11, 2023 governorship election.

Labour Party (LP) candidate, Athan Achonu; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; Chief Okere John Jude of the Accord Party (A); Maj Gen Lincoln Ogunewe (retd) of Action Alliance (AA), and Sir Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), among others were present to sign the Peace Accord. Incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hope Uzodimma, was conspicuously absent at the ceremony.

LEADERSHIP reports that the signing of the peace accord, which took place at the Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri, Imo State capital, was designed to provide a platform where all the gubernatorial candidates will share their manifestos, hopes, and aspirations with Imo electorate, who are desirous of hearing from the candidates.
