The International Committee of the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Red Crystal Society (ICRC) has trained journalists on first aid administration during conflict or crisis situations.

The training which involved practical simulation exercises had journalists from print, broadcast and online mediums.

It was intended to equip journalist on how to administer basic first aid assistance to themselves or casualties before proper medical attention arrives.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the communication coordinator for ICRC Nigeria, Qusai Alazroni, said the objective was to equip journalists with valuable skills and knowledge crucial in emergency situations.

The training covered first aid practices, safety and security, and the management of various injuries during conflicts and emergencies in the context of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

It also involved management of casualties in event of unconsciousness, bleeding and breathing challenges, burns/scalds, bites/stings, fractures, full body examination, gunshot wounds and embedded objects.

Alazroni said journalists work in volatile environments and the training could help them to be prepared and be resilient.
