GSVAL U-20 Tourney: Golden Spikers Dictate Dace After Day 1

Golden Spikers of Onitsha showed tenacity and strong will on the first day of the maiden Glorious Spikers Volleyball Academy Beach Volleyball U-20 Tournament in Lagos, winning their games against Glorious Spikers and Vico Spikers while their women team, Golden Spikers Babes were too hot for Refiners Babes in their opening game.

The tournament which started a little behind schedule due to the traffic in Lagos saw Golden Spikers coming from a set down to defeat Glorious Spikers 2-1.

The first set ended 21-18 in favour of Glorious Spikers but Golden Spikers returned in the second set to secure a 21-13 win before rounding the game up with a 14-13 victory to end the game 2-1 in their favour.

Golden Spikers continued their fantastic run in the second game defeating Vico Spikers 2-0 after winning 21-16 and 21-14 in the first and second set respectively.

It was a straight win for Refiners Spikers in their first game as they defeated Vico Spikers 2-0, securing a 21-13 win in their first set before wrapping the game up with a 21-14 win in the second set.

They also defeated Goodluck Spikers, who had earlier walkover Heaters Spikers in their first game, 2-0.

In the ladies games, Golden Spikers Babes, defeated Refiners Babes 2-0 with the scores 21-17, 21-14 over two sets.

Refiners Babes however returned to winning ways after thrashing Glorious Babes 2-0; 21-5, 21-11.

The competition end on Tuesday, November 28, with all the teams expected to return to their location on Wednesday, November 29.
