Sixteen years after leaving office as the civilian governor of Akwa Ibom State, the memoirs of Obong Victor Attah, 85, capturing his eight years stint at the Government House including his scorecard, character and public service records, will be launched on Friday.
An accomplished international author of several books to his credit, Evang Faith Thomas, told LEADERSHIP in Uyo, the state capital at the weekend that the book on Attah, regarded as the champion of resource control and the father of modern Akwa Ibom, took him over three years to package.
Thomas, a management consultant and information management expert, said the 308-page book titled: “Eight years of Victor Attah in Akwa Ibom State: A Memoir For Posterity” is divided into sections and has its focus on the character, personality, public service and the achievements of Attah, for eight years as the governor the state rechristened “The Land of Promise”.
According to Thomas, an Akwa Ibom indigene in the Diaspora, who recently returned to the state, he was inspired and drawn into writing about the former governor based on his track record, as “a detribalised Nigerian, a meticulous individual and someone given to details.”
He said, “It is a definitive publication gazzeting the whole administration of the former governor, from electioneering campaigns to the time he left office.
It talks about his character, his personality and his administration. It is not limited to Akwa Ibom state because of the personality involved.
It is a review of the background of Akwa Ibom state; facts and figures about the state, the natural resources, the culture, the people and the political framework contained in one section.
The book also contained the former Governor’s philosophy and ideologies as well as the administrative reforms he implemented while in office as Governor between 1999 and 2007, as well as the legacies he left behind.“
