LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that when the fire started at the room of the victim, she was far asleep. It took the effort of the other female students in the hostel to break into the room and bring her out but she was later confirmed dead at the Specialist Hospital, Gashua

Our correspondent learnt that the fire broke out some minutes after 10am on Saturday, at a time when most of the students had gone out while others were engaged in various activities within the school.

At the time of filing this report, the university’s firefighters and the State Fire Service were battling to contain the raging fire while the cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained.

Reacting, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency said they sympathised with management, staff and students of Federal University Gashua over the fire incident.

LEMC team in Bade and Jakusko local government areas visited the scene to make on-the-spot assessment of casualties and destroyed items, confirming sadly the death of one female student who was burned to ashes.
