German legend Toni Kroos called his record of six Champions League titles “crazy” after ending his club career by helping Real Madrid to their 15th European Cup in a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Saturday’s night.

Kroos, 34, announced earlier this year that he will retire from football after representing Germany at Euro 2024, making the Champions League final his last game in a Real shirt.

And after creating the opening goal for Dani Carvajal before being substituted to a standing ovation, midfielder Kroos joined Real legend Paco Gento and current team-mates Carvajal, Luka Modric and Nacho with a record six Champions League titles.

With no player in history winning more European Cups/Champions Leagues, Kroos said he couldn’t believe the magnitude of his incredible personal achievement.

“Amazing,” Kroos told CBS. “Six titles in the Champions League is crazy, something I never thought I’d achieve.”

Kroos won the first of his six Champions Leagues with Bayern Munich against Dortmund at Wembley in 2013, but has added five with Real.

And he said that the Spanish club has a different feel to it when it comes to playing in the Champions League.

“It seems in these games, we are unable to lose,” Kroos said. “You don’t lose finals. That’s a good base to have I guess.

“It comes about because of quality, of course, but the mentality is crazy. It’s a lot of believing. It’s what separates this club from others.

“It could be worse. That was the plan to end with a Champions League win, even though it’s difficult to plan this.”
