Following the Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has asked his colleagues not to be distracted by it.

He said the ruling called for more productive activities to boost internally generated revenue for states.

Makinde made the call when he hosted the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) executives, led by national president Chief Chris Isiguzo, at the secretariat, Ibadan.

The governor, who was conferred as grand patron of NUJ, Oyo State chapter, enjoined Nigerian journalists to imbibe developmental journalism and work with the government to solve burning issues.

While describing the award conferred on him as a call to reconnect with journalism, Makinde charged media outfits to always consider overriding interest of the people in what they project.

Earlier,  Isiguzo commended Makinde over his massive and unprecedented infrastructure projects, saying that he has left an indelible mark in the history of Oyo state.

He appealed to journalists to deviate from the act of painting the country black, but rather should project outstanding political office holders positively.

Isiguzo’s entourage included the chairman of NUJ, Oyo State, Oyo State chapter Ademola Babalola, and other national and state executive members.
