The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Malam Faruk Lawal has imposed curfew across the 34 local government areas of the state.

Lawal declared a 24-hour curfew in the Dutsin-ma local government area and a 7:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the remaining 33 local government areas of the State.

This decision was made after an emergency state security council meeting convened to address the breakdown of law and order in some parts of the state due to the nationwide protest.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Bar. Garba Faskari, the Acting Governor had earlier received a group of civil society organisations who were on a peaceful demonstration at the Government House and pledged to deliver their messages to the appropriate authorities.

However, the government later received reports that some miscreants had hijacked the protest and unleashed terror by vandalising shops and engaging in destruction of public and private properties.

As a result, the government found it necessary to impose these measures to safeguard people’s lives and properties in the state.
