FG Promises More Assistance For Borno Flood Victims

Federal government has promised to provide more palliatives for the victims of the recent flood disaster in Borno State. The government has announced a N3 billion fund disbursement to cushion the statement to cushion the effect of the disaster.

Minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy Wale Edun who was part of the latest government delegation to Maiduguri made the promise, according to a statement that was released by his ministry on Saturday.

Edun extended sympathies to the victims of the floods, acknowledging the tragic loss of life, immense material losses and widespread displacement.

He emphasised that the federal government is actively working to explore further avenues within the national budget to ensure financial aid and direct support are provided to the affected communities through the Ministries of Finance and Budget and Economic Planning.

Edun also highlighted the importance of the presence of the National Security Adviser on the visit, stressing that President Tinubu understands that maintaining Borno’s improved security situation is crucial, even amid the ongoing crisis.

The visit follows earlier efforts by the administration, including Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent visit to Maiduguri, where he assessed the damage caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam.

The statement added that the delegation also had Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, senior special assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, and other officials who were in the state on Friday to show solidarity with the government and people in the wake of the devastating floods that have severely impacted the region.
