World Bank Injects $700m Into Kebbi WASH Programme

The World Bank is set to inject $700 million into the Kebbi State Water Sanitation programme under the Federal Government-World Bank-assisted Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme.

This was announced by the team leader and national coordinator of the SURWASH programme, Engr Abdulhamid Adamu Gwaram, when he led the programme’s stakeholders on a courtesy visit to Governor Nasir Idris.

The team were received at the cabinet office by the secretary to the state government, SSG, Yakubu Bala Tafida, on behalf of the governor.

Gwaram told the SSG that Kebbi State was a frontrunner in the programme and that the federal government has recognised its commitment to implementing the Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene project.

He also explained that Kebbi has successfully graduated from the eligibility phase and is now in the second round, moving towards the final stage of readiness and accessibility.

Gwaram also emphasised that the programme operates on a results-based financing model, where access to funding depends on evidence of positive implementation and impact and it is confidently known that Kebbi State has the capacity, capability and commitment to deliver.

Responding,  Governor Nasir Idris, represented by the secretary to the state government,  Yakubu Bala Tafida, said the administration is committed to meeting all requirements of the programme, including necessary budgetary provisions, while urging the sponsors to fulfil their obligations to ensure the success of the scheme.

 

The SSG affirmed the government’s readiness to fully implement the $700 million for the purpose it was meant for.
