Adamawa State government said it has constituted a joint committee to work out ways by which the 11 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)  which have not benefited from the wage increment would benefit.

The committee, which is headed by the Head of Civil Service, Pharmacist Shehu Isa, is to partner with stakeholders in addressing pressing issues affecting workers and explore ways to enhance workers’ well-being in the state.

State deputy governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta made this known at the Workers Day celebration held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola.

Farauta, who represented her principal, the governor, stressed that the government recognises the challenges workers are facing generally and reiterated its commitments to improving their working conditions.

“Government would ensure timely payment of salaries, providing opportunities for capacity building and human capital development.”

She lauded the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for advocating for the workers right and welfare.

“NLC’s dedication to promoting social justice and fairness in the workplace is commendable.

The governor added, “The Government remains committed to building a state where workers are not only respected but are given the tools and conditions to thrive.”

Earlier, NLC state chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, lamented the hike in electricity tariff, which was made worse by categorising the supply and distribution into various bands based on criteria.

Fashe listed the Bureau for Public Procurement, staff of both Accountant and Auditor General’s offices, and judiciary and legislative staff among the 11 MDAs whose salaries are bonded by state laws. They have yet to feel the impact of the wage increment in the state.

The event witnessed march passes from various groups comprising the state’s NLC and TUC, and gifts were presented.
