He recorded the remarkable feat during the highly competitive Eugene Diamond League meeting at the weekend.

Enekwechi’s record-breaking throw of 22.10 metres not only solidifies his position in the sport but also marks a significant personal milestone, surpassing his previous best of 21.91 metres, which he had set at the same prestigious event last year.

His phenomenal performance not only showcases his talent but also highlights the rising standards of shot put in Africa.

Competing against a field of elite athletes, Enekwechi finished third in the event, with American shot putter Joe Kovacs captured the top spot with a world-leading throw of 22.48 metres, further exemplifying the international calibre of competition present at the Diamond League.

Roger Steen, representing the Netherlands, narrowly beat Enekwechi for second place with a personal best throw of 22.11 metres on his fifth attempt of the evening.

Despite a valiant effort to further improve his mark on his final throw, where he recorded a distance of 21.68 metres, Enekwechi’s historic achievement remains a shining highlight of the event.

His success not only showcases his individual talent but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Africa, motivating them to push the boundaries of what is possible in athletics.

With his historic throw, he has not only set a new benchmark for African athletes but has also put Nigeria firmly on the global athletics map. The nation’s sports community will undoubtedly watch with keen interest as Enekwechi prepares for his next competitions, where he will aim to build on this momentous achievement.
