The Nigerian Armed Forces is set to establish a new sector command in Mubi, Adamawa State to strengthen efforts against persistent security challenges in Adamawa State.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, disclosed this yesterday when he led a delegation of senior military officers from the Defence Headquarters on a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.

General Musa stated that the military barracks in Mubi would undergo rehabilitation to prepare for the operationalisation of the new command.

“We will operationalise and strengthen the command, especially as non-state actors are increasingly infiltrating through Hong local government area, causing havoc,” he said.

“We want to ensure that we decisively deal with these insurgents so that Nigeria can return to the peace it once enjoyed. Your Excellency, a few years back, no one would have imagined the situation Nigeria is facing today.”

He noted that non-state actors were making attempts to penetrate the state and emphasised the need to deny them any space for operations.

He added that the Nigerian Air Forces would also be strengthened to respond swiftly to any eventualities.
According to the defence chief, despite Adamawa sharing an international border, the state has remained relatively peaceful, and saluted the consistent support of Governor Fintiri in that regard.
In his response, Governor Fintiri welcomed the military’s decision to establish a sector command in Mubi.

“I believe that when you succeed in the field, my people sleep peacefully. I’m pleased with your reforms in the security sector.
Establishing a sector command in Mubi will greatly help in curbing insecurity in the state,” he said.

The governor recalled recent attacks by ISWAP and Boko Haram in Madagali and Hong and expressed the government’s readiness to support the military in ensuring the success of the initiative.

He also advocated for the rotation of military officers across different locations in the state to improve efficiency.

“Beyond the infrastructure we are deploying, we are also empowering our local hunters to complement the efforts of the military,” the governor added.

Governor Fintiri commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their efforts in combating insecurity and appealed for more troops, particularly in response to threats through the Hong axis.
