The Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Abubakar Sulaiman has dismissed speculations about any plan to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abubakar described speculation of his joining ADC as “false, baseless, and a figment of the imagination of those threatened by my firmness and national profile.”

The professor of political science made this clarification in a statement signed by his media aide, Mohammad AbdulKadir.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Director General, National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman has been drawn to an unfounded and mischievous rumour being peddled in certain quarters that he has defected, or is planning to defect to the new coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Let it be known, and let it be said unequivocally that this speculation is false, baseless, and a figment of the imagination of those threatened by his firmness and national profile.”

The DG said he remained a committed progressive who very much aligned with the vision of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement stressed that the NILDS boss is not in any way associated with the ADC or any other political platform. “His focus at the moment is on delivering on his national assignment as Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS). A role he continues to carry out with distinction and patriotism.”

The statement further stressed that “Prof. Sulaiman holds unwavering regard and respect for the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the executive governor of Kwara State.

“He aligns fully with the Governor’s vision for a better Kwara and remains committed to the success of his administration and the continued dominance of the APC in the state and across the nation.”

It added that the attempt to drag Prof. Sulaiman into petty political speculation is not only malicious but also laughable. “It is the handiwork of desperate political actors who have become jittery in the face of Prof. Sulaiman’s political influence within and outside the state.”

The general public have therefore been enjoined “to disregard the fake news and treat it for what it is, a failed attempt to sow discord and create confusion where there is none.”

It restated that Sulaiman stands firmly under the canopy of the APC and remains committed to the progressive ideals that have guided his public service and political life.
