The Bauchi State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) has dissolved all Area Education and School Support Officers’ teams across the 20 local government areas of the state.
The chairman of the board, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, announced the dissolution during an interactive session with education secretaries from the 20 LGAs, saying it was part of efforts to strengthen educational oversight, improve service delivery and enhance learning outcomes in public schools across the state.
According to Duguri, the others affected include Arabic and Christian visiting teachers, Early Child Care Development (ECCDE), education supervisors and library supervisors under the 20 Local Education Authorities (LEAs), who have all been relieved of their duties.
He explained that the action is part of a comprehensive strategy to overhaul monitoring and supervision structures within the local Education Authorities in the state.
In a press statement issued on Friday by the board’s public relations officer, Isah Mohammed Jungudo, SUBEB directed relevant sections in both the SUBEB and the LEAs to ensure a smooth transition process, including safeguarding official records and ongoing initiatives.
He added that henceforth, only school support officers appointed by UBEC/SUBEB and LEAs would be recognised for the supervisory roles.
Duguri added that new appointments would be made in due course by the respective education secretaries, guided by updated selection criteria designed to standardise and improve the effectiveness of school support functions.
He emphasised that the new guidelines would be provided to all the LEAs to guide and enhance the quality and consistency of support provided to schools.
The SUBEB chairman therefore directed all affected officers to report to their respective LGEA headquarters immediately for onward assessment and documentation.
