The federal government has approved the appointment of deputy controller-general (DCG) Olumode Samuel Adeyemi as the new substantive controller-general of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) announced the appointment on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the Board, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) A. M Jibril, the appointment will take effect from August 14, 2025.

His appointment follows the imminent retirement of the current Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, who will officially exit the service on August 13, 2025, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

The statement explained that DCG Olumode Adeyemi is a seasoned officer who transferred his service from the FCT Fire Service to the Federal Fire Service. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Human Resource Directorate at the Service Headquarters.

Throughout his career, Adeyemi has completed all mandatory in-service training and command courses, as well as several professional programs in Nigeria and abroad.

His credentials are further reinforced by his membership and fellowship in notable professional bodies, including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, and the Chartered Institute of Treasury Management of Nigeria.

In the statement, the Board expressed its appreciation to the outgoing Controller-General, Engr. Abdulganiyu Jaji Olola, acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the growth and reform of the Federal Fire Service.

His tenure, the statement noted, was marked by significant initiatives that improved operational effectiveness and service delivery.

With the appointment of DCG Adeyemi, the Board expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the Service into a new era of professionalism and performance.
