In a significant move to enhance Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) development in Nigeria, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the deputy president of the Senate, has finalised plans to upgrade the facilities at the Bayero University Kano (BUK) stadium.
The initiative follows the recent promotion of Barau FC, a club founded by the Deputy President, from the Nigeria National League (NNL) to the Nigeria Premier League (NPFL).
This was announced when the Deputy President of the Senate’s delegation, comprising his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallah; Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ismail Mudashir; and Special Adviser on Youths and Sports Development, Comrade Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, met with BUK’s management, headed by Vice Chancellor Professor Haruna Musa on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Professor Abdallah conveyed the Senator’s intentions to the university management.
“His Excellency has asked us to formally inform you of his plans to upgrade your football stadium, enabling it to host national league matches and other football events,” he stated. “As we all know, he has undertaken numerous projects to address the infrastructural gaps within this institution. Now, he believes BUK deserves an international football facility to benefit the university, its community, and our youth.”
In response, Vice Chancellor Professor Musa expressed gratitude for the proposed upgrades.
“We are delighted to receive such positive news. Coincidentally, this aligns with the blueprint I presented to the University Governing Council when applying for the position of Vice Chancellor of this esteemed institution,” he said. “We extend our immense thanks to Senator Barau for this initiative. On behalf of Bayero University’s management, I assure him that this project is warmly welcomed by the university community. We are prepared to host his team and provide all the necessary support to ensure the success of this endeavour.”
