CVR: Kano Targets 10m Registered Voters Ahead Of 2027

Kano state Governor, Abba Yusuf has inaugurated a taskforce on voter registration, tasking them to ensure the number of voters registered in the state reach 10 million at the end of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Farouk Umar, gave the directive while inaugurating the 36-member committee to be chaired by the state’s Commissioner of Information and Home Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Waiya at the conference hall of the Cabinet Office.

He urged the committee to mobilise the citizens to register and get their voter’s card, highlighting that voters cards are veritable instruments to exercise their civic duties in electing their leaders.

He noted that the state already has about five million voters while mandating the committee to mobilise massively to hit 10 million by the end of the exercise.

While reiterating government commitment to supporting the process, Governor Yusuf also urged them to work in fairness, ensuring no one is denied registration regardless of their background or religion.

He also tasked the committee to ensure they collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant stakeholders to enlighten and mobilise the public as well as monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the process, given the political vibrancy of the state.

In his remarks, chairman of the committee, Comrade Waiya thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve.

He assured that the committee will mobilise people across the state in ensuring that eligible voters were captured.
