Ekiti State government has warned motorists against preventable road accidents, attributing most crashes to human factors that road users can prevent with adequate care and caution.

The special adviser to the Governor on Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, who stated this, assured the residents of the government’s determination to continue to provide road infrastructure to improve road safety, increase convenience, and improve the people’s quality of life.

He called on motorists to exercise caution at all times, especially during the last four months of the year, to prevent avoidable road accidents.

Olatunbosun, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, stressed that contrary to the infamous erroneous belief and misconception, September to December, popularly referred to as the ember months, are free, safe and devoid of lurking evil spirits, just like every other month of the year.

The former commissioner, who warned against drink driving or driving under the influence of any intoxicants,  disobeying traffic rules and signals,  maintained that all road users must be safety conscious to prevent avoidable accidents and attendant possible injuries and loss of lives.

He said, “Road users must be safety-conscious to prevent fatal and non-fatal injuries and deaths, as human error is the primary cause of most accidents. A safety-conscious mindset helps individuals anticipate hazards, avoid distractions like mobile phone use, obey traffic laws, and promote a culture of respect on the roads.

“This consciousness protects itself and vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists, making roads safer.

“Driving needs 100 per cent concentration; driving under the influence of alcohol, impatience, inadequate vehicle maintenance, fatigue and speeding are notable causes of road crashes.

“We don’t need to rush or follow one way just because we want to get to our destination on time. You must rest when you are tired. Lack of rest can hinder blood circulation and lead to accidents,” he warned.
