Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider staging the Super Eagles’ international fixtures in Ibadan, stating that this move would accelerate his administration’s drive to develop the state’s sports economy.
Makinde made the appeal at the weekend while declaring open the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the NFF, held in Ibadan.
He emphasised that football remains a powerful unifying force in Nigeria and assured that Oyo State is adequately prepared to host major sporting events. According to him, the facilities in Ibadan meet the standards required for high-profile games.
“Oyo State, particularly Ibadan, is ready to host top-tier events, including Super Eagles matches. We have the facilities, and I pledge full government support to ensure their success,” Makinde stated.
The governor also commended the leadership of the NFF and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for ongoing reforms, particularly in improving officiating standards and enhancing the overall organisation of the domestic league.
