We’re Confident Of Securing First World Cup Berth, Say Benin Coach, Captain

Chief Coach Gernot Rohr of the Benin Republic national team, known as the Cheetahs, and Captain Steeve Mounie have expressed confidence in their ability to overcome the challenge posed by the Super Eagles in their final fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference yesterday ahead of today’s crucial tie, Rohr remarked that his team would draw inspiration from their previous successes against Nigeria and the fact that the Cheetahs currently sit at the top of the table.

“We are pleased to face Nigeria as the group leaders. We have a strong chance to qualify for the World Cup. We can achieve this because we are the best among the three teams,” he stated.

Although Rohr acknowledged that two of his players are unavailable due to suspension and three others are sidelined with injuries, he affirmed that this would not deter their ambitions.

“We aim for a win and must be patient, controlling the game and defending well, as Nigerian strikers are formidable. However, our team spirit is high.”

Captain Mounie also expressed optimism about qualification, stating that his players are well aware of the challenge of defeating the Super Eagles.

“We are committed to doing everything necessary to secure victory. We are the only team that has beaten Nigeria before and we believe we can do it again,” he asserted.
