Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has called for the immediate suspension and arrest of Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, over allegations of cross-border sex trafficking, intimidation, unlawful detention, and the misuse of state security agencies for personal gain.
Sowore made the call in a video shared on his X account on Sunday, noting that the controversies surrounding the lawmaker extended “far beyond the unlawful detention” of his estranged wife, Regina Daniels’ brother, Samuel Ojeogwu also known as Sammy West.
“The outcry surrounding Senator Ned Nwoko goes far beyond the unlawful detention of his now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels’ brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, ‘Sammy West’,” Sowore said.
According to him, “What we are witnessing is part of a larger, troubling pattern involving the exploitation of underage girls across borders and the misuse of state power.”
He alleged that Nwoko has a long history of human rights abuses facilitated by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, whom he described as “now-disgraced” and accused of acting as “private enforcers for Senator Ned Nwoko of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).”
“This so-called billionaire was just throwing people in prison, and when we got to prison, we found nine people who had been put in prison by the same Ned Nwoko from his village,” he added.
Sowore also claimed, “There was a time Ned Nwoko also went and hijacked one lady’s father. The lady was crying all over social media that Ned had ruined their family. Ned has ruined a lot of lives using the police force.”
Highlighting his civic responsibility, the human rights activist said, “Anybody who is a public figure, who is in political office, our duty, first and foremost, is to hold them to account, no matter how powerful they are.”
He accused the Senator of involvement in cross-border prostitution, alleging that Nwoko brought underage girls from countries like Morocco into Nigeria, which he described as “international sex trafficking crimes”
Regarding the detention of Regina Daniels’ brother and other related incidents, Sowore clarified, “He must understand that I’m not fighting for Regina Daniels, but I’m fighting against abuse of office by a Nigerian Senator who is colluding with the Nigerian police, and has had a history of using the police to oppress people.”
He recounted the case of a TikToker, Timothy Gabriel, known as Turmar, who was allegedly targeted by Nwoko after making claims about Regina Daniels’ children.
“Regina Daniels’ issue came to my attention when her husband arrested a TikToker named Timothy Gabriel, whose TikTok name is Turmar, because he claimed that Turmar accused Regina Daniels of having kids that do not belong to this particular Senator.
“The Senator procured the Nigerian police, particularly the FCT Command, got Turmar arrested and sent him to prison. They eventually brought Turmar to court after we protested, and Turmar was granted bail but could not meet his bail condition for four months. When he came out, he had been battered so badly, he was forced to apologize to Regina Daniels’ husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.”
Sowore also recalled his own experiences with alleged abuses of power by Nwoko.
“In 2021, I was also arrested; that time not by Ned Nwoko, but I was arrested by the Nigerian Police, accused of doing a protest on New Year’s Eve. When we got to prison, we found nine people who had been put in prison by the same Ned Nwoko from his village because they said that when young people were fighting against him for stealing their land to set up what is now known as his Sports University. We fought and helped these guys to get out.”
Sowore criticised the Nigerian police for allegedly enabling Nwoko’s actions, saying, “Ned has got a huge amount of support from the Nigeria police. They go to his house to eat every day, policemen in Nigeria. Shame on the Nigerian police for having sold the police force for free.”
According to the human rights activist, his intervention in challenging the Senator stemmed from a broader fight against impunity and human rights violations in Nigeria’s political and security systems.
