Members of the AA Eagle Network have expressed their support for the emergence of the next governor of Kwara State from the Kwara North Senatorial District.
Members of the association took this decision at their extraordinary meeting held on Thursday in Ilorin, the state capital.
The group made its position known in a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Elder Paul Zhiri Tsowa, and Secretary, Hon. Jacob Oni.
Formed in 2013, the AA Eagle Network is a political association devoted to the promotion of equity, social justice, and good governance in Kwara State.
“The association holds the belief that the state can only witness progress and development when the system is fair to all, irrespective of religious or ethnic leanings.
“For clarity, the group, consisting of notable politicians and technocrats, gave its total support to the incumbent Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections.
“But this time around, the group will work for the emergence of the next governor of the state from the marginalised Kwara North.
“For the record, no citizen of Kwara North has served as governor of the state since 1999 when Nigeria returned to democratic rule. While Kwara South has occupied the governorship seat for eight years, Kwara Central will complete 20 years on the seat at the end of the tenure of Governor AbdulRazaq in May 2027,” the group said.
It added: “We shall not leave any stone unturned in our efforts to ensure that Kwara North produces the state governor in 2027. We have, in earnest, directed our coordinators in the 16 local government areas of the state to commence the mobilisation of our people towards achieving this noble goal. The long-suffering people of Kwara North deserve to be at the driver’s seat this time around.”
