Ikorodu City F.C. pulled off a major upset after defeating league leaders Rivers United F.C. 1–0 in a Matchday 30 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League on Monday. The match was played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Substitute Folarin Temitope netted the decisive goal in the 52nd minute.
Temitope reacted quickly after Rivers United’s goalkeeper parried an effort from Salami Farouk, calmly slotting the rebound into the net.
The home side, coached by Mike Ozebagbe, held on to their advantage for the remainder of the match.
Despite the defeat, Rivers United remain top of the table with 52 points from 29 matches, although they still have a game in hand.
Ikorodu City moved up to third place with 48 points from 30 matches, strengthening their push for a continental qualification spot.
