Nigerian Dietitian Delisted For Using ChatGPT During NHS Job Interview In UK

A Nigerian dietitian has been removed from the UK professional register after being found to have used AI assistance during a remote NHS job interview.

According to a report by Daily Mail on Thursday, the candidate was accused of relying on real-time responses generated by ChatGPT while attending a virtual interview for a position at an NHS hospital.

During the session, she repeatedly asked the panel to restate questions, then slowly echoed them back, apparently to buy time before delivering polished, “model-style” answers.

Suspicion grew when one of the interviewers entered the same questions into ChatGPT and noticed striking similarities between the AI-generated responses and the candidate’s answers. Multiple panel members raised concerns that she may have been cheating, both during the live interview and while completing a follow-up case study task.

The matter was referred to the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS), which later ruled that her conduct amounted to misconduct. As a result, she has been struck off the professional register.

The tribunal heard that the interview took place in March 2024 for an oncology dietitian role at Royal Surrey County Hospital. Conducted via Microsoft Teams, the candidate joined remotely from Nigeria.

While she responded to personal questions confidently and with enthusiasm, the panel noted a clear contrast when clinical topics arose. In those instances, she frequently hesitated and asked for questions to be repeated, further raising concerns about the authenticity of her responses.
