Babajide Eyes Olympic Qualifiers After WAFCON Heartbreak

Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide has set her sights on the Olympic Games qualifiers after Nigeria’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the team failed to secure a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Babajide, who was part of the squad in Ivory Coast, admitted the pain of missing out on a World Cup ticket but expressed gratitude for representing her country at another continental tournament.

“Heartbroken to say the least. It really hurts to miss out on a World Cup spot but grateful for the opportunity to represent my country at yet another WAFCON,” Babajide wrote on X.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way we’d have liked it to have gone. We might be down right now but we’ll definitely bounce back, the only way we know how to, the Naija way.”

The attacker urged the team to regroup and reflect as they prepare for the next challenge, stating, “Time to reset, reflect and work ahead towards the Olympic qualifiers.”

Babajide also thanked supporters who backed the team throughout the tournament, both at the stadiums and from home.

The Super Falcons now turn their attention to the Olympic qualifiers as they seek to secure a place at the next edition of the women’s football tournament.
