The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Nigerian-born nurse and social media influencer Bemi Orojuogun, popularly known as “London Bus Aunty,” following the naming of a London bus stop in her honour.

NiDCOM Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the recognition as a significant achievement and a moment of pride for Nigeria and its citizens living abroad.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Commission’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa said Orojuogun’s story showed how passion, authenticity and pride in one’s heritage could create a lasting impact beyond Nigeria.

Orojuogun gained widespread attention through social media videos centred on London’s iconic red buses. Her distinctive content, which combines her personality with her fascination for the city’s transport system, has attracted a large following and millions of views.

Dabiri-Erewa commended the Nigerian-born nurse for using her online platform to entertain audiences while projecting a positive image of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

She also praised Transport for London (TfL) for recognising Orojuogun’s contribution and celebrating her longstanding connection with the city’s transport community.

According to the NiDCOM chairman, the honour reflects the contributions Nigerians continue to make in different professions and communities around the world.

She urged Orojuogun to regard the recognition as motivation to continue using her influence positively, adding that the achievements of Nigerians in the diaspora remained a source of pride to the country.

Orojuogun announced the honour on Wednesday in an Instagram video, expressing surprise and gratitude over the decision to name a bus stop after her.

“Bus Aunty have her own bus stop. My goodness, I’m very lucky,” she said while thanking TfL and its workers for their efforts in keeping London’s transport system running.

She also acknowledged the work of TfL staff behind the scenes and praised them for their service to London residents.

Responding to her social media post, TfL described the recognition as “an honour.”

Orojuogun has lived in the United Kingdom for more than 30 years. She became a social media sensation through videos showing her posing alongside London buses, content that has earned her widespread attention across various platforms.
