The 11th edition of the Lagos Women Run, a 10km road race, will take place on 14 November, with organisers expecting participation from women runners across Nigeria and beyond.
The annual event, which promotes women’s participation in road running, will start and finish at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
Coordinator of the race, Tayo Popoola, disclosed this on Monday after a meeting with agencies involved in preparations for the event, saying the countdown began on 14 October, exactly one month before race day.
Popoola said the organisers were working to improve on previous editions and ensure a successful outing for participants.
“We have been working hard and, in our usual way, we want this edition to be better than the last. We just have to keep improving on what we are doing,” she said.
She added that all runners who complete the race would receive medals, while participants would also get jerseys, sports bags and other items.
Registration for the 2026 edition opened in August, and Popoola said entries were still being received from different parts of the country.
The Lagos State Sports Commission Director-General, Lekan Fatodu, who has supported the event, is expected to contribute to preparations for this year’s race.
The Lagos Women Run has grown into an annual fixture on the city’s sporting calendar, attracting women of different ages and running abilities.
Organisers regard it as one of the leading women-only road races in sub-Saharan Africa, with the 2026 edition expected to build on the event’s growing profile.
