The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has told the Igbokoda community in Ondo State that concerns about environmental pollution resulting from the aircraft accident will be addressed after the completion of the search and recovery operation.
NAF director of Public Relations, Air Cdre Ehimen Ejodame, stated this while responding to concerns raised by residents of Igbokoda, over fears of possible environmental pollution after the ATR aircraft crash that killed five crewmembers and 20 passengers on 5th October, 2026.
He said the NAF recognises the discomfort, anxiety and uncertainty such circumstances may cause the community.
He, however, assured the people that their concerns were “being taken seriously.” He reaffirmed that, while search and recovery operations were ongoing, the NAF continues to coordinate with relevant partner agencies to ensure the safe and orderly recovery of the wreckage.
“Upon completion of the recovery operation, the NAF will engage with the appropriate environmental and public health authorities and other relevant agencies to assess the situation and coordinate appropriate action to address any identified environmental concerns.
“The NAF remains concerned about the wellbeing of the affected community and is committed to constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure that appropriate measures are taken in the interest of public health, safety and environmental wellbeing,” he said.
