The Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation (QOHF) has distributed food items and relief materials to teachers, school staff and widows of fallen servicemen as part of activities marking World Food Day 2026 in Abuja.
The humanitarian outreach, held at the NAOWA Model Nursery and Primary School, Asokoro, was organised in collaboration with the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC).
The event, which aligned with the 2026 World Food Day theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” also featured lectures on nutrition and hygiene, as well as a seedling-planting demonstration by the school’s Young Farmers Club.
Speaking at the event, Air Commodore Emmanuel Ohanele (rtd.), Secretary of AANDEC, who chaired the occasion, called on Nigerians to prioritise food production and invest in initiatives that would strengthen food security.
He stressed that access to food was essential to national development and security, urging citizens to support local agricultural production.
“It is against the law of nature for any Nigerian to stay hungry, especially in this century. Food security is national security. We must all invest in producing what we eat,” Ohanele said.
In her address, the Executive Officer and Project Coordinator of QOHF, P. Amb. Peace Onwuka, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting widows, personnel of Nigeria’s security services and their families.
She said the initiative reflected the foundation’s determination to provide assistance to vulnerable groups and promote their welfare.
Onwuka also aligned the foundation’s activities with the position of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the fundamental right to food.
She cited his declaration that “Food is a basic human right and not a privilege,” stressing the importance of ensuring that vulnerable people have access to adequate nourishment.
The initiative also provided an opportunity to support widows of servicemen who died in active service.
Mrs. Ann Onuigbo, the Magajiya of the National Defence College, who led the widows to the event, described the outreach as a noble initiative.
She urged the government and other stakeholders to support non-governmental organisations working to empower women, noting that increased support would enable such organisations to expand their humanitarian activities and reach more beneficiaries.
The head teacher of NAOWA Model Nursery and Primary School, Asokoro, Mrs. Stella Yacim, expressed appreciation to the Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation for selecting the school for the outreach.
She said the school remained open to hosting more activities commemorating United Nations international days and called for greater investment in making food available and affordable to Nigerians.
The event concluded with group photographs, planting exercises and celebrations involving the pupils.
The Quincy Odafe Humanitarian Foundation is committed to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly widows, women and families of members of Nigeria’s security services, through humanitarian interventions aimed at improving their welfare and restoring hope.
