Moniepoint UK Posts 1st Month’s Revenue After Customer Migration

Moniepoint UK Limited, the United Kingdom subsidiary of Nigerian fintech company Moniepoint, recorded $36,284 in revenue in its first month of operations after migrating customers from its diaspora remittance product, MonieWorld, in December 2025, according to the subsidiary’s accounts for the year ended December 2025.

The figure represents revenue from just one month of activity following the customer transfer and not the subsidiary’s total revenue for the whole of 2025. It therefore does not provide a complete picture of the business’s annual earnings or establish the overall commercial performance of MonieWorld, with the subsidiary’s accounts also showing a loss after tax of $226,172, despite a gross profit of $10,220. Its total assets stood at $769,703, while customer liabilities amounted to $112,453 at the end of the reporting period.

The financial disclosure comes amid Moniepoint’s decision to discontinue its diaspora-focused remittance service and redirect resources towards its core financial services business serving African enterprises.

MonieWorld, launched in April 2025, enabled Nigerians living in the United Kingdom to transfer money directly to bank accounts in Nigeria. It entered a competitive remittance market where providers compete on transaction fees, exchange rates, transfer speed and customer experience.

Although Moniepoint had previously reported a 70 per cent increase in monthly transaction volumes among UK diaspora users, it did not disclose the product’s absolute transaction value, total revenue or profitability. The reported growth, therefore, does not establish whether the service had achieved sustainable commercial returns.

Moniepoint’s UK expansion also involved the acquisition of Bancom Europe Limited in July 2025, which was subsequently renamed Moniepoint UK Limited. The acquisition provided the group with access to an electronic money institution authorised by the United Kingdom’s Financial Conduct Authority, strengthening its regulatory foothold in the market.

However, the subsidiary’s accounts listed technology and communication as its largest disclosed administrative expense, at $125,838 in 2025. It also incurred $14,464 in bank and partner fees and $11,600 in foreign exchange transaction expenses.

These expenses highlight some of the costs associated with operating cross-border financial services, including technology infrastructure, payment partnerships and currency conversion. Nevertheless, the fact that the reported revenue covered only one month after customer migration means the figures alone cannot establish whether the operation was commercially unviable or whether the expenses were attributable solely to MonieWorld.

The development reflects the challenges fintech companies face when seeking to expand beyond their established markets. While digital platforms offer faster and more convenient international transfers, operators must attract sufficient transaction volumes, build customer trust and meet regulatory requirements to sustain their businesses.

Meanwhile, for Moniepoint, the decision to wind down its UK remittance ambitions signals a reassessment of where its financial, technical and operational resources could generate stronger returns. The company has indicated that it intends to concentrate on its core financial services for African businesses, with Nigeria remaining its principal market and Kenya forming part of its regional expansion strategy.

The distinction between the UK subsidiary’s reported revenue and the wider group’s financial performance is important, as the $36,284 relates to the subsidiary’s first month following the customer migration and should not be interpreted as Moniepoint group revenue or as the total earnings generated by MonieWorld throughout 2025.
