Pioneer managing director of the National Orthopedics Hospital (NOH) Jos, Prof Icha Onche has been inducted into the Idoma Hall of Fame for his academic brilliance, resilience and medical excellence.
The event which took place in Wuye, Abuja, brought together eminent sons, daughters and dignitaries from across Idoma land and the nation at large.
Onche was honoured for his historic feat as the first-ever Professor of Orthopaedics in the history of the Idoma Nation, capping off decades of groundbreaking clinical practice, academic leadership, and pioneering contributions to Nigeria’s health sector.
The MD while reacting on his induction to newsmen in Jos, commended the organizer of the event for finding him worthy to be inducted into Idoma Hall of Fame adding that the honour will spur him to do more in the service to humanity.
According to him, his journey to the pinnacle of medicine is a profound story of grace, grit, and triumph over adversity.
He maintained that he faced severe early childhood health challenges stressing that while growing up, he was diagnosed with a severe orthopaedic deformity (rickets, described as Windswept Deformity).
Prof Onche further disclosed that he has successfully executed over 700 hip, 600 knee, and 15 shoulder adult joint replacements, alongside more than 2,500 complex trauma operations.
The MD while reflecting on his induction and presidential appointment said “For a child who was physically challenged and carried on the back by his elder brothers to school, to grow up to become a medical doctor, a Professor of Orthopaedics and Trauma, and now appointed by the President to lead a brand-new National Orthopaedic Hospital, is the ultimate testament to God’s grace and mercy, he said.
