The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its support for the outcome of its Abia South senatorial primary election for the 2027 general elections, dismissing claims of irregularities and alleged manipulation of the party ticket.

The state chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, made this known in Umuahia on Tuesday following allegations by one of the contestants, Chief Paul Ikonne, who reportedly claimed that the party ticket had been handed over to him.

Chukwu described the claim as false and misleading, warning that such reports were capable of creating confusion and unnecessary tension within the party.

He urged Ikonne and his supporters to desist from spreading misinformation capable of undermining internal unity and discipline within the APC in Abia State.

He maintained that the primary election was conducted in a transparent and credible manner on May 18, 2026, across the 65 wards in Abia South Senatorial District, in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment to internal democracy, Chukwu called on members and stakeholders to remain united and rally behind the party’s duly elected candidate in the interest of the district and the APC.

He noted that the election results were officially announced by the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Prof. Erasmus Cishak.

According to the results, Erondu Uchenna-Erondu Jr emerged winner with a total of 15,982 votes.

Other contestants included Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, who polled 4,022 votes; Prince Paul Ikonne, who scored 4,322 votes; and Hon. Blessing Nwagba, who received 4,556 votes.

The party reiterated its position that the primary outcome remains valid and binding, urging aggrieved aspirants to pursue internal dispute resolution mechanisms rather than public statements capable of heating up the political atmosphere.

The Abia APC leadership also stressed the need for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the party’s focus remains on strengthening its structures and presenting a united front at the polls.
