Again, FCT, 7 Other States Placed On Flood Alert

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been prominently placed on an additional flood alert issued yesterday by the Federal Ministry of Environment’s National Flood Early Warning Center (FEW Center).

The alert which was issued through a circular signed by the director, erosion, flood and coastal zone management department of the ministry, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, also placed seven other states on its watch-list.

The seven other states are Adamawa, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers, Delta, Kebbi and Taraba.

The FCT and the other states were said to be in addition to the flood prediction of October 9 which the center said due to their locations and environs, were to experience heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding between October 11 and 13.

Mabushi, Maraba, Nyanya, Wuse1&2, Kuje, Guzape and Garki 1&2 were placed on high alert in the  FCT.

In Anambra, areas placed on alert in clude Awka, Onitsha, Umueze, Anam and Umugboma.

In Rivers and Adamawa state Bonny town and song were respectively placed on red alert while Kebbi  and Taraba had Sakaba and Wukari towns on the list.

 

The circular which also warned that communities downstream of the River Benue from Makurdi, through Lokoja, Idah, Umueze/Anam up to Onitsha  take necessary caution due to the rising water level around their domain also placed Delta State’s Ecravos, Okwe and Oko Anara on the watch list.

Bokani urged relevant stakeholders and state government representatives on the FEW center’s platform to give feedbacks on developments in their respective states. He advised citizens staying along waterways to take precautionary measures or evacuate from flooding environments in order to avoid being caught up in any disaster.
