A knight of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Sir Gabriel Onyedilefu has said the church is preparing the youths for the future through various programmes.
Onyedilefu stated this while speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the 1st Session of the 11th Synod of Umuahia Diocese of the church at All Saints Church, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia, Abia State capital.

“Every year we have what we call the Joshua Bible Study for the youths hosted in Abuja,” said the erstwhile accountant-general and commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs of the state.
Onyedilefu, who said about 1,000 delegates from the diocese participated in the study this year, added that the church has many other programmes for the youths at diocesesan levels.

“Like this synod, we started with Youth Synod from Monday to Wednesday with over 1,000 delegates. We have programmes that keep the youths busy every year to strengthen their faith,” he added.
He said the synod, which is an annual affair, is the highest gathering of a diocese and is rotated among the archdeaconries to review the activities of the diocese in the last one year.

“And again, it looks into the current and reviews the future. So, it is also a sort of evangelism for both members and non-members of the communion.

“It makes projection also for the future and analyses whether what we have done in the past was okay and also maybe amendments and things like that,” he added.
On the theme of the synod in the 30th year of the diocese, “Sitting at the feet of Jesus: The right choice,” he said it was very apt as it is the best thing to do.
