Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria has felicitated with the Muslim ummah across the globe on the beginning of the new Islamic year, Hijra 1446, calling on the federal government to declare work-free days for the celebration of Islamic New Year in the interest of equity and justice.

The group said the new Islamic year was significant and auspicious as it commemorates the migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina.

The group, in a statement signed by the national publicity secretary, Muhammed Sola Hassan, reminded the Muslim ummah of the importance of caring for the welfare of citizens, particularly the vulnerable amongst in society.

“As we mark the beginning of the new Islamic Year, we pray that Allah blesses us with peace, prosperity, and happiness. I wish to seize this opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of caring for the welfare of citizens, particularly the vulnerable among us.

“May this new year bring us closer to achieving a society that prioritises justice, compassion, and equality for all. We urge all citizens to work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come,” he said.
