Worried by the increasing cases of breast cancer among women, the Bauchi State government has said it would introduce effective preventive measures to address the growing cases across the state.
The government has indicated strong commitment to partner groups and non-governmental organisations to create awareness on the dangers associated with the disease.
Governor Bala Mohammed gave the indication while receiving a group of NGOs at Government House in Bauchi as part of activities to mark the 2023 World Breast Cancer Day.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, Governor Mohammed said the government was concerned about the number of deaths being recorded as a result of breast cancer.
Governor Mohammed said the state government through the ministry of health would also establish breast cancer screening centres in all parts of the state, including rural areas.
State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi who underscored the importance of the advocacy, assured that the agency would also contribute in enlightening the public.
Speaking on behalf of the NGOs, a leader of the group, Aisha Bappa, while commending the state government for supporting the annual advocacy programme, said the group had embarked on a free breast cancer screening exercise as part of activities to mark the day.
