The Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Campaign Council has said the flag-off by their campaign by President Bola Tinubu is still on course.

The party was reacting to insinuations trailing the postponement of the campaign flag-off which was earlier scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2023.

The campaign council also reiterated that Tinubu will be present at the official flag off in Bayelsa State at a date to be communicated soon, while calling on Bayelsans to disregard the false and malicious publications circulating on social media that the postponement was due to the recent judgement of a Federal High Court putting a wedge on Chief Timipre Sylva’s eligibility.

A statement signed by the Bayelsa APC Campaign director media and publicity, Perry Tukuwei, said the official flag off was postponed due to the exigencies of the Office of the President.

The statement reads, “The Bayelsa State All Progressive Congress (APC) with the support of Bayelsans is working round the clock implementing pre-election activities to ensure the victory of Chief Timipre Sylva and Great Joshua Maciver at the November 11 Governorship Election with no hassle or challenge whatsoever.

“To set the records straight, the Party through its lawyers have filed an appeal to the judgement at the appellate court as well as a stay of execution well within the time frame permitted by law. This means every campaign activity is ongoing with no break whatsoever as evident in the resounding successes recorded during the recent campaign activities in Agbere, Ebedebiri, Sagbama Town, Peretorugbene, Toru-Ndoro, Aghoro, Aleibiri, Ekeremor in Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

“The campaign activities continue in Bayelsa Central Senatorial District with Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area and Southern Ijaw local government area respectively as the next port of call from 17th October to 20th October 2023.

“Furthermore, the reason for the postponement of the official flag off scheduled for Saturday 14th October 2023 was due to the exigencies of the Office of the President.

To this end, a delegation comprising members of the National Working Committee of the APC led by the Chairman of the Bayelsa National Gubernatorial Campaign Council and Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency, Mohammad Inuwa Yahaya visited Bayelsa on Saturday 14th October 2023 with a strong commitment to ensure the victory of Chief Timipre Sylva as the incoming Governor of Bayelsa State.

“In a chat with journalists during a live media chat aired on radio stations in Bayelsa, the chairman of the Bayelsa National Gubernatorial Campaign Council also reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be present at the official flag off at a date to be communicated soon.

“The handwriting on the wall is crystal clear. Chief Timipre Sylva is enjoying the support of Bayelsans as the next Governor of Bayelsa State and no amount of propaganda and false narrative can deter this lofty goal. Bayelsans should expect robust campaign activities in the coming days just as the door is wide open to receive more supporters to key into the Renewed Hope for Bayelsa agenda of Sylva/Maciver.”
