Sailing Through the Storms of Adolescence is a well-researched, thought provoking book that is a manual for helping teenagers live through the challenges of adolescence. It is therefore, a must-read for parents and teenagers who can gain meaningful insights on puberty, the onset of adolescence, and the often turbulent transition to adulthood.
The book which is a page-turner, provides solutions to juvenile delinquency, a social problem that is prevalent in the Nigerian society and is by and large, responsible for the spiraling vices like cultism, drug abuse, teenage suicide among others.
The author, Comrade Nanman Philemon Kash,, is a well-trained nurse of international repute whose wealth of experience and depth of knowledge in teenage care evidently shows in the passionate manner the issues in the book are presented.
According to the author, “I was inspired to write the book by my love for children. My experience as a caregiver shows me that children need special care, especially when they are in their stormy years that mark the physiological and psychological transition from childhood to adulthood. I just want to show parents and guardians how to care for their adolescent children so that they do not degenerate to delinquency which unfortunately breeds all sorts of anti-social behaviour among teens.”
The book launch will, thus, feature a parents-teens summit with intense, engaging discussions focused on Puberty, Parent-Teen Relationship, Drug Abuse and Social Media. Panelists dissecting the issues are: Hajia Fatima Isah Ndako, President Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria, FCT Chapter; Mrs Rebecca Edet, an educationist and Thankgod Ocheho, a child development specialist as well as Fortune Poret Philemon, a teenager.
