Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has stated that his administration will continue to equip and reposition the Public Service to enhance service delivery and meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
Governor Buni made this statement during the swearing-in of the new Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Yerima Lawan Mahmud, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, two Special Advisers, Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Barde, and the Statistician General of the state, Abdulrahman Malik.
He charged Yerima Lawan to inject his wealth of experience into developing the new Ministry to achieve its established goals.
“I wish to reassure livestock farmers that the government will invest heavily in livestock development, especially in the establishment of veterinary clinics, provision of water, development of fodder banks, and vaccination of livestock against transboundary diseases, to exploit the rich livestock potential and make Yobe State Nigeria’s leading livestock production state,” Governor Buni said.
The Governor also urged the new Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, to galvanise the civil service to improve productivity and service delivery to the people of the state.
“You are encouraged to promote and reward hard work to all deserving workers without sentiment, enhance teamwork, ensure delegation of responsibilities, and champion transparency and due process in conducting government business,” he stated.
He noted that the government would continue to prioritise capacity building to enhance productivity and service delivery.
“Currently, 34 of our Permanent Secretaries are undergoing training at the Public Service Institute in Abuja, with another 149 civil servants at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos,” he added.
He described the appointments of Mohammed Bukar Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde as Special Advisers as invaluable for improving government-electorate relationships.
“You are advised to use your connections with the grassroots to project the people’s interests so they can be reflected in government policies and programmes to improve their lives,” he said.
Buni mentioned that the government established the State Bureau of Statistics to provide scientifically verifiable figures to guide government policies and programmes, aiming to achieve the desired results with minimal waste.
He called on the people “to continue supporting and praying for the state and the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a united, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.
