An illegal sit-at-home order being enforced by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in states across the  zone has generated varied reactions with many describing it as counterproductive as it is negatively impacting economy of the zone.

The sit-at-home order has further engendered unrest in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation comprising Ndi Igbo Action Group, Nigeria Concerned Citizens Worldwide, and Association Of Retired Foreign Active Military & Security Services Of Nigeria Extraction, Senator Nwoko said there was no substitute to dialogue insisting that genuine dialogue was the way out.

The meeting was to seek Senator Nwoko’s support in tackling the escalating unrest in southeast.

Senator Nwoko shed light on the complexity of addressing such unrest and the importance of learning from history.

He drew a parallel to Nelson Mandela’s fight against apartheid in South Africa and highlighted the starkly different labels that various groups attributed to Mandela, depending on their perspective.

The versatile lawmaker who earned fame for his philanthropic gestures noted that the way people perceive Simon Ekpa, who has been linked to the ongoing unrest, can significantly influence the approach taken to resolve the issue.

Senator Nwoko questioned the efficacy of Simon Ekpa’s extradition and instead proposed dialogue as a solution.
