Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDHIC) has won the maiden edition of the Institute for Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria (IHIMN) Leadership Award for outstanding performance in quality healthcare delivery through the platform of health insurance.
The award, Best Health Insurance and Managed Care Government Agency in Health Care Coordination and Management, was presented to the Edo State government through the director-general of EDHIC, Mrs. Augusta Ikpea Enaholo, at the IHIMN 2025 Leadership Awards night in Abuja on Tuesday.
The leadership of the IHIMN said the EDHIC had become a reference point in the country through its quality health care coordination and management.
It also stated that EDHIC had proven to be among the few state health insurance services that had been able to sustain quality health care coverage for its people, hence the recognition at the maiden edition of the IHIMN Leadership Awards.
Director General of EDHIC, Augusta Ikpea Enaholo, in her remarks, described the recognition as not only a profound honour but also a reaffirmation of shared commitment to building a health insurance system that is inclusive, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of Edo State people.
“To be acknowledged by an institution so deeply rooted in excellence, research, and advocacy, is both humbling and energizing. At EDHIC, we have always believed that access to quality healthcare is not a privilege but a right. Over the past year, we have invested in innovation, strengthened partnerships with both public and private stakeholders, and, most importantly, listened to the people we serve.
“From digitizing our enrollment systems, expanding provider networks across the 18 local government areas, to streamlining claims and care coordination, every milestone we have achieved has been guided by a single goal: to ensure that no one is left behind,” she said.
She appreciated the support of the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering belief in the vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
“Leadership at the top is essential, and we are fortunate to have an administration that prioritizes the health and well-being of its people,” she stated.
She also appreciated the frontline health
workers who deliver care with compassion and courage; partner health facilities, diagnostic centres and collaborating sister agencies who align with the mission of accountability and quality.
President Bola Tinubu who was represented by his special adviser on health, Dr. Salma Anas, congratulated the states for implementing the dreams of the President as regards quality and affordable healthcare services.
She reassured them that the government would continue to work for the good of the people, by supporting any course that would herald improved healthcare services to the people.
