In a major gesture of goodwill ahead of the Eid-al-Adha celebrations, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has donated 3,000 rams to communities across Zamfara State.
The donation, announced on Tuesday, aims to support families and promote social unity during the Islamic festival, which is traditionally marked by the ritual of slaughtering a livestock.
The official distribution was flagged off in Gusau, the state capital, by the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani Gusau.
Each of Zamfara’s 14 local government areas will receive 100 rams, totalling 1,400 distributed directly to grassroots communities.
The remaining 1,600 rams were being allocated to key APC stakeholders across the state, including party executives, elders, women and youth groups, religious leaders, and other community influencers.
“This is more than a donation. It is a statement of solidarity and care for the people,” Alhaji Danfulani said at the event.
The gesture has been widely praised by residents and party members, who viewed it as a reflection of Dr. Matawalle’s continued commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
Dr. Matawalle, who previously served as Zamfara State governor, has long been known for his philanthropic efforts and political influence in North-West Nigeria.
With economic challenges biting harder on households, many said the support could not have come at a better time.
“This will bring joy to many homes during the Eid celebration,” said Aisha Umar, a resident of Kaura Namoda.
She said the donation also serves to bolster party unity and grassroots support ahead of the next election cycle.
As the Eid festival approaches, the rams will be slaughtered in homes across Zamfara State, symbolising sacrifice and shared blessings.
Community leaders have offered prayers for Dr. Matawalle, asking for divine reward for his generosity and continued service.
Eid-al-Adha is expected to be observed on Friday, with millions of Muslims worldwide taking part in the annual celebration.
