The federal government has approved the appointment of Ja’afaru Ahmed as its the new secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).
His appointment is coming three weeks after the demise of the former secretary of the Board, Mrs Aisha Ahmad Rufai, on March 20, 2023.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the minister of Interior and chairman of the Board, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday.
Ja’afaru Ahmed was the immediate past Controller General of Nigeria Correctional Services (NCoS), where he recorded enviable achievements, among which were the initiation of the construction of 3000 capacity custodial centres in six geopolitical zones in the country.
Other strides he recorded during his administration as NCoS boss are: the re-opening and rehabilitation of 32 satellite custodial centres previously shut down due to Boko Haram insurgency activities, the construction of 14 new satellite custodial centres with barrack accommodation in some states as well as the construction and subsequent commissioning of an ultra-modern conference centre and adjoining event centre at the Nigerian Correctional Services ( NCoS) national headquarters.
The new board secretary who hails from Jegal local government area of Kebbi State in North West Nigeria, was born on July 21, 1959.
He attended Nasarawa Primary School, Birnin Kebbi in 1972 where he obtained his First School Leaving School Certificate.
He also attended Government Secondary School, Birinin Kebbi where he got his West African Examination Certificate in 1976 and proceeded to the College of Arts and Science, Sokoto State for IJMB in 1980 and later to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in History in 1984.
