A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Zakari Mohammed has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State.
Mohammed, who was the sole gubernatorial aspirant was unanimously chosen as ‘consensus guber candidate’ by members and leaders of the party and he got 18,860 votes in the direct primary held to put a seal on his candidacy.
The secretary of the Kwara State ADC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Shimaka Sekegh, who announced the election results on behalf of the chairman, Orker Yisa, said Hon. Risikat Abdullahi, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and Malam Taoheed Usman won Senate nominations for Kwara Central, Kwara South and Kwara North, respectively.
Other candidates of the party include Hon. Abdulkadir Olanrewaju Oba-Aluko, Ilorin West/Asa representative seat, Hon. Tope Olayonu, Oyun/Offa/Ifelodun representative seat and Saad Isa, Ilorin South/Ilorin East representative seat.
The collation of results and announcement of the names of the party’s candidates at the state ADC secretariat was monitored by a team from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which was led by Mr Okpanachi Ojodale.
In his remarks, the state ADC chairman, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed commended party members for their efforts, expressing delight that the primaries were hitch- free.
He urged the party members to return to the 193 electoral wards in the state and begin to work for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections
In his acceptance speech, the Kwara State ADC gubernatorial candidate, Hon Zakari Mohammed thanked members of the party in the state for their support, while noting that his emergence as the party’s guber candidate is a win for the people of the state.
He also promised to give the state a new face if elected governor next year.
“By the Grace of God, we will deliver on the ADC manifesto, it is a party for the young people, the women, senior citizens, artisans and everyone. Everybody is welcomed and made to get involved. I assure you that by the Grace of God, ADC will take over the control of Ahmadu Bello, Government House, Ilorin, next year.
“I urge pensioners, civil servants, farmers, traditional rulers and everyone to acknowledge the fact that ADC comprises people who are experienced and will not only ensure good governance but can also be held accountable,” he said.
