The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of motorists driving against traffic and violating traffic lights in Abuja.
In a stern warning issued on Thursday, the FCT Administration vowed to prosecute offenders before a Mobile Court and impose penalties as stipulated by law.
The FCTA, through its Transportation Secretariat, also declared that vehicles of offenders would be impounded in addition to the fines.
In a statement by the Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Abdulateef Bello, the Administration emphasised that driving against traffic and beating Red Lights are serious offences under the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023 (Regulation 18, No. 172-173) and attract fines.
The statement read in part, “The FCT Transportation Secretariat has observed with concern the rate at which motorists drive against traffic and commit red light violations in the Federal Capital City and Territory.
“The motoring public is hereby warned that henceforth, anyone caught in violation of these traffic offences will have their vehicles impounded and be arraigned before a Mobile Court for prosecution and penalty administration.”
He stated that the crackdown aimed to restore order and ensure compliance with traffic laws in the nation’s capital city.
