Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has sued for peace at the formal presentation of staff of office to the Kumu 1 of Gombi Chiefdom, His Royal Majesty, Aggrey Bechour Ali.

Fintiri described the event as a testament to resilience and hope for a brighter future.

He emphasised the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic groups within Gombi Chiefdom, including the Ga’anda, Lala, Bura, Hona, Mofa and Fulani communities.

“This chiefdom exemplifies the Adamawa spirit – that we can achieve great things when united beyond tribal and religious sentiments,” Fintiri said.

The governor used the occasion to highlight some of his administration’s development initiatives such as road construction, healthcare, education and youth empowerment, aimed at improving the people’s living standards.

He reiterated the government’s ban on tree-felling for charcoal production and illegal mining, urging traditional rulers and security agencies to enforce compliance.

The governor called on all sons and daughters of Gombi, from Tawa to Garkida and Balhona to Fotta, to support the new Kumu and promote harmony, progress and development in the chiefdom.

In a goodwill message, the Lamido of Adamawa, represented by Galadima Adamawa Alhaji Mustafa Aminu, congratulated the new chief and praised Governor Fintiri’s developmental strides.

In his acceptance speech, His Royal Majesty Aggrey Bechour Ali expressed gratitude for the sacred trust bestowed on him, pledging to promote peace, empower youths and women, and uphold the welfare of his people.

The chairman of the organising committee, Prof David Jatau, described the event as historic, being the first time Gombi has had a chief, marking a new era for the chiefdom.
