About 14 shops of grains, food and non-food items have been destroyed by fire which occurred at 10:00 am yesterday at Yola Town Main Market in Adamawa State.

The director of Adamawa Fire Service, Mr Abdullahi Adamu, said the fire was contained by the joint efforts by the state fire service, American University of Nigeria, AUN, Faro Bottling Company and the Federal Fire Service in the state.

He said the curfew imposed on the state helped the fire fighters to control the situation, without hoodlums looting rescued properties from the scene of the inferno.

Adamu, traced the root cause of the fire to gas cylinder explosion, from a local restaurant, which was escalated by the split of diesel from a generator set nearby restaurant.

He said, ” No life was lost in the inferno. For now, monetary value of property damaged cannot be quantified.
