Gels To Google This Is How I Found My Voice in Health Writing

In my early 20s, I learned that life doesn’t always follow a straight path. I started out in a lab filled with chemical gels, and now I spend my days in front of a screen, turning complicated science into relatable stories. Funny how things turn out.

After finishing my degree in petroleum engineering, I, Raha, found myself tucked away in a lab, studying samples and watching how tiny molecular changes could lead to huge results. The work was interesting, no doubt. But quietly, another side of me started waking up.

Every night, after I wrapped up in the lab, I’d find myself digging into health articles and writing blog-style posts just for fun. Back then, I didn’t know it would lead anywhere but in hindsight, it was the start of something bigger. A new direction where science, writing, and communication could finally meet.

Finding My Why

Writing has always been part of me. As a kid, I filled notebooks with stories and essays, anything that sparked my interest, from nutrition and history to old-school remedies and modern health trends.

Things really shifted when I earned a fully funded joint master’s scholarship to study in China and Japan. That experience, especially diving into digital business case studies and learning how to interpret marketing data, changed the way I saw writing. It wasn’t just a tool for sharing facts, it was a way to spark change.

That’s when it hit me: if I could take dense, clinical information and turn it into something people actually wanted to read, it could make a real difference. That idea stuck with me.

Turning Passion Into a Profession

My first paid writing job came from a small supplement brand. They needed someone to turn complicated clinical trial results into blog posts regular people could connect with, and that became my sweet spot.

Once I started learning about SEO and how people search for health information, something clicked. I realized that my love for writing and research wasn’t just a side hobby, it had real value.

My background in engineering helped me a lot more than I expected. That same analytical thinking I used in the lab helped me build structured, trustworthy, and emotionally engaging content. I wasn’t just typing out articles, I was helping people connect with science in a real, personal way.

Lessons from the Hard Knocks

It didn’t come easy like most of the good things. One of the first hurdles I faced was learning how to simplify complex topics without losing their meaning. Staying transparent to the data while speaking in simple language demanded a lot of practice.

And SEO? It’s like trying to hit a moving target. It changed fast, and in the beginning, it felt like I was constantly playing catch-up. But those early challenges made me sharper, more adaptable, and better at what I do.

A Day in My Life

Usually, I’m up by 7:30 AM, with a strong cup of coffee. I take my Vitauthority supplements because I believe that staying healthy is what keeps me energized and fresh. After that, my day starts by checking emails, making notes, and planning the day. A few mornings a week, I head to the gym to reset my brain and body.

Reading is part of my rhythm, whether it’s fiction to stay creative or medical journals to keep up with what’s new. After a light lunch and a short walk, I settle into deep work, editing, researching, or shaping SEO strategies.

Evenings are my time to unwind. I cook, talk with people I care about, write in my journal, and reflect on what I’ve learned. It’s that balance of getting things done and slowing down that keeps me going.

The Habits That Keep Me Going

I count on a mix of digital tools and good old-fashioned routines to stay on track. Apps help me organize projects, while workouts, journaling, and downtime reading help me recharge.

If I feel burnout creeping in, I don’t ignore it. A quick walk or a spontaneous dance break in my office usually does the trick. These little rituals give my mind the space it needs to bounce back.

Misconceptions & Myths

People often think content writing is just typing fast and hitting publish. In reality, I work more like a detective, digging into data, outlining with care, and often spending more time researching than writing.

And while I write about health and wellness a lot, my workspace doesn’t exactly look like a meditation retreat. It runs on coffee, protein shakes, and occasional bursts of unplanned dancing. It’s messy and energized, and it suits me just fine.

Advice to Fellow Starters

If you’re just getting into content writing or SEO, here’s what I’ve learned along the way:

  • Learning the basics really well, understanding your audience, and doing solid keyword research make a big difference.
  • Build a clean, focused portfolio that shows your range.
  • Use tools to stay organized, but make time to learn and grow too.
  • And above all, be patient. Progress shows up through consistency, curiosity, and lessons from every job.

Looking back, I never would’ve guessed that my love for molecules and metaphors would shape the life I’m building now. But it makes sense when you follow the pull of what excites you, it can take you somewhere better than you ever imagined.

Keep exploring, stay grounded, and don’t underestimate your own voice, it’s often stronger than you think.
