Gov Kefas Begins Probe Of Predecessor, Dissolves Boards, Others

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has dissolved the standing chairmen and members of boards, commissions and governing councils in Taraba State.

The governor also set up a nine man committee to checkmate and review the financial activities of the dissolved boards, commissions and the governing councils from 2019 to 2023.

In a statement sign by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Gibon Kataps and made available to LEADERSHIP, it stated that all the chairmen and members of the boards, commissions and governing councils stand dissolved with effect from June 19th, 2023.

The statement further revealed that some of the commissions which were created of the 1999 constitution (as amended) were not affected by the dissolution.

“Further to the earlier announcement for the dissolution of boards, commissions and governing councils, for the purpose of clarity and avoidance of any such doubts, the following Commissions which are creation of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) are not affected by the dissolution notice.

The commissions which were not affected include State Civil Service Commission, State Independent Electoral Commission, State Judicial Service Commission and State House of Assembly Service Commission.

The SSG directed membership of the Boards and Commissions to submit their resume and other relevant documents to his office in person for vetting.

Meanwhile, the nine man committee set up to review the financial activities of the boards, commissions and governing councils from 2019 to 2023 were charge with responsibility to ascertain the impact of the existing commissions to the state government.

The committee has Mr. Polycarp Iranus, the auditor general of the state as chairman Dr. Gangum Ahmed Williams Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural and Community Development as member and Mallam Adullahi M. Sanusi DPRS LGSC also as member.

Other members of the committee are; Mrs. Fatima T. Yusuf, Mr. Obadiah T. Ipeyen, Mr. Livinus Jesse Ayih, Prof. Nicholas Nyemise, Mallam Kefas N. Saleh and Mr. Genesis Kwantar Permanent Secretary as Secretary of the committee.

“They were charge to determine the performance of all the Boards, Commissions and the inflow, outflow of funds of the Board/Commissions.

“To determine the performance of the Boards, Commissions in terms of service delivery as it affects such Boards and Commissions in the interest of the state.

“To determine the performance of the Boards, Commissions and its performance indexes, negative or positive as it affects the various zones and components of the state.

“To suggest to the government how best to reorganize such Boards/Commissions in order to function optimally and achieve its set objectives in the best interest of the state.
